Cardiology

Cardiology is a medical specialty dealing with the structure, function and disorders of the cardiovascular system.

This field of medicine deals with the diagnosis, etiology, treatment and prevention of congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease and electrophysiology, in addition to the coronary rehabilitation of patients recovering from myocardial infarction or heart surgery.

Modern methods of diagnosis enable the detection of heart and vascular diseases in the early stages, allowing for prevention and effective treatment.

Non-invasive Cardiology (Diagnostic Tests)
• Stress Tests (both treadmill and ergometry)
• Echocardiography Tests – Doppler
• TEE Tests (transesophageal echocardiogram)
• Echo Stress Tests – echocardiological check during physical exertion with or without Dobutamine injection
• Holter Monitoring
• Heart Mapping, including SPECT (Single-Photon Emission Computed Tomography)
• Embryonic echocardiography
• Cardiac CT Angiography – computerized tomography of the heart
• Cardiac MRI – Magnetic Resonance Imaging of the heart

Invasive Cardiology
• Angioplasty & Cardiac Catheterization – the technique of placing a stent in a damaged artery.
• “Cypher” Catheterization – a special drug-eluting stent is inserted into the artery to provide a “scaffold” to open the artery which helps limit the overgrowth of normal cells while the artery heals and reduces the chance of re-blockage in the treated area known as restenosis, and reduces the chances that another procedure will be required
• Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery
• Emergency treatment of patients with myocardial infarction
• Heart valve surgery (correction and replacement of aortic and mitral valves)

Cardiac Electrophysiology
• Treatment of patients with all types of arrhythmia
• Catheter Ablation using the most advanced scientific instrumentation
• State-of–the-art pacemaker & defibrillator implantation

Intensive Coronary Care
• Treatment of myocardial infarction
• Treatment of acute & chronic heart failure
• Treatment of patient who need to undergo special procedures eg intra-aortic balloon, heartbeat regulation, haemodynamic monitoring, cardioversion of arrhythmia
• Treatment of pulmonary hypertension |
• Treatment of chronic heart disease
• Treatment of patients following CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation)

Coronary Rehabilitation and Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease
The aim of the rehabilitation program is to enable cardiac patients (post myocardial infarction, post heart surgery) to gradually return to normal active life and strengthen overall physical condition. Patients have access to a fully equipped gym containing modern & sophisticated equipment and run under close medical supervision.
